Out of over 70,000 residents, there are only approximately 1,000 Anderson County citizens left that are in need of clean, drinkable water.

In the past, water has been provided to remote areas of the country through federal, state and local grants. Up to now, the county has never approached its business neighbors for help until B&W Y-12 approached Anderson County Government and offered their assistance.

On May 13, 2010, B&W Y-12 announced that they will be donating $100,000 to bring clean water to 42 Anderson County homes.  Click here for more details.

The following is a personal story from Mike Harmening who has lived on Old Dutch Valley Road in Clinton, Tennessee for the past 30 years and is the principal of the community's Dutch Valley Elementary School:

"When I was younger and my boys were at home. there were times we would haul water for three or four families. Some of the folks were elderly and just couldn't do it. I'm getting older now, and the boys are gone. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to haul water from the spring to the house. Getting this water line out to the house is something we've wanted, but didn't know if we'd see in our lifetime. I can tell you my wife and daughter are happy.

"We're talking about a basic need here," Harmening said. "l just don't feel like in this day and time that any home in Anderson County should not have the availability of clean water.
