Prior to joining the Bredesen Administration, Meredith served as the Register of Deeds for Anderson County. He managed all public recording of instruments and an annual budget of approximately $250,000. During his tenure, he started electronic imaging of recorded documents in Anderson County and was the first to establish Internet access for recorded land records in the United States. In addition to these accomplishments, Meredith was chosen as “Tennessee’s Register of the Year” in 1996, and was elected Tennessee Registers Association President by his fellow registers in the same year.
