Scott Gillenwaters, Parliamentarian
Commissioner
Scott Gillenwaters is serving his second term as County Commission
representative from District 6. His district includes Oak Ridge City Hall,
Robertsville, Tri County and West Hills precincts.
Commissioner Gillenwaters is currently the Parliamentarian of the County

Scott Gillenwaters has been a resident of Oak Ridge since 1992, having grown up in the Karns Community of West Knox County. He was elected Commissioner in August 2002. He is married with two children.
He has a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education and political science from Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia.
He began his career as a staff assistant for two members of Congress before entering Christian education full time in 1989. He currently serves as Director of Student Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge.
An active member of the community, Scott is a trained mediator with Tennessee Mediation Services and volunteers with the Victim-Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP) and the Teen Parent Mediation Program (TPM). He is also a member of the Oak Ridge Century Lions Club having served two terms as President. He currently works with the Kidsight Eye Screening program, serves on the Board and is the club newsletter editor.
He has served on the board of directors for CONTACT Hotline Inc. and volunteers with the annual Tele-friend Fun Run. He's been an assistant coach for AYSO soccer as well as a parent volunteer at the Boys Club and Linden Elementary School. He is also involved in the Y-Indian Guide Program.
Professionally, Scott is a Certified Stewardship Consultant for the United Methodist Church. He has led and assisted in several capital fund and general fund campaigns for churches throughout Holston Conference. He serves on the Design Team for the Resurrection Youth Event, an annual spiritual enrichment gathering of about 11,000 teens and adults in Gatlinburg. He has written numerous articles for United Methodist publications over the years including co-writing the 1999 Youth Bible School curriculum. His book, Sage Advice: Stories from Seasoned Youth Workers, was published in May 2003.
