Mark Alderson first became interested in public service through his father, the late Tom Alderson, who served as Anderson County Circuit Court Clerk for 26 years.
"I grew up in a great community and Anderson County has been a good place for me to raise my family. I will keep working to improve the county because I want to continue to offer a great quality of life for our residents."
As a commissioner, Mark Alderson has worked to resolve problems with the old Blockhouse Valley landfill, a contaminated site that the state ordered the county to clean up. He has worked to bring an end to the problems so future generations won't have to worry about it. The original cleanup cost was estimated to be approximately $10 million, but with County Commission taking an authoritative role in working with the State, the cleanup cost is now estimated to be $3 million.
Mark feels that it is important for the county to not only attract new industry, but to keep established business here. One of his goals is to keep young residents here in Anderson County. As a commissioner he supports the efforts of the Anderson County Development Corporation to develop industrial park land for sale to prospective industries wanting to locate in Anderson County.
Priorities that he has established are ensuring that the county schools receive a fair share of state funding, continuing to support economic development efforts that brings jobs to Anderson County, and responsibly managing the county's multimillion dollar budget. Mark has a good working relationship with the areas legislators and intends to keep working with them on state funding issues to benefit Anderson County.
